A little early for Easter...

But the weather's been so nice, I let Luci wear her Easter dress.

On Sundays, I am always fixing my hair at the last minute, so I always ask one of the boys to go take a photo of Luci when she's wearing something new.

JT got the job this time, and took her all the way out to the swing.  Notice that she didn't get her white socks or sandals dirty in that stuff underneath the swing!

Yes, I know.  White shoes before Memorial Day.  When it's warm, we wear white.

Dress Up

Luci dresses up in different outfits all the time, asking if she looks "real."  She might be a tiger, a teacher, a princess. 

Last week she came to me, asking, "Do I look like a real Mommy?"

Of course, dear.  Especially since I wear my glass slippers around the house all the time.  You got all the details right!

In Her Easter Bonnet...

Luci all ready for the Easter Egg Hunt. Yes, she dresses herself. She was going to carry her pumpkin bucket from Halloween (quite happily, too) until I found this ice cream bucket that said "Blue Bunny." Luci thought "Bunny" made it appropriate, even though it had pictures of snow men on it. I'm not sure why she chose the Mouse ears. Luci is developing her own style. As long as it's modest and doesn't involve permanent tattoos or body-piercing, I'm ok with it.

Mom, do you see what she's wearing? Look at her feet! She wore those to the YMCA and now the library!

Yes, I see the glass slippers, Bryan...and when you were her age, you went everywhere as Batman for a whole year.

What Shall I Wear?

The boys had quite a few costumes made by me when they were younger. I felt like I was falling down on the job for Luci. Today I cleared out her closet and got a pleasant surprise as I hung up some of her costumes.

Luci has the requisite princess dresses, of course! And even a purple sequined dress made from a remnant she fell in love with. But there's also a batman costume, Blue Angel pilot's costume, and a NASA space shuttle costume is in there--made for Bryan and JT when they were Luci's size. There are a few other costumes she plays in, too--they are hiding in a dress-up box in the living room. She prefers princess dresses, but will play rough and tumble with the other costumes occassionally, too. I felt pretty good seeing the homemade costumes and don't feel guilty anymore.

Mom, do you remember making Janet and me tiger and leopard costumes 'way back in Del Rio? Luci wears a cute little tiger costume I made for JT and I think of the costume you made for me every time she puts it on.

I Wanna Be An Astronaut!

Yesterday, Luci told me she wanted to be an astronaut. I asked JT to look in the costume box in the basement for his old astronaut suit. After some hemming up of sleeves and pants, Luci fits into JT's old suit! I can't find a time or place to sew, but I sure can hem. So nice to get another child's use out of it. I made this to look like the suits at the Space and Rocket Center. At S&RC, the suits are priced from $54.95 (for young children) to $80 (size 8 and up for children). We bought patches, and got one with astronauts that Papa knows, and thought this came out pretty close.We are trying to keep Luci up and not napping during the day. As a consequence, she can get pretty doggone silly! She found this mirror that we haven't hung yet and she was nearly hysterical with laughter. Sorry about my big ol' feet showing up in this photo!
