This is eating away at me...

Today Luci was reading this book

 and came across this fact

which led to this comment from her:

If you could eat yourself, would you get bigger, or just disappear entirely?

Heard in 2011

On this date in 2011, Luci was heard to say:

 How old were you, Mommy, when you were a little girl?

What month was that?

What time of day?

Two Things ....

Today I read The Little Red Hen to Luci.

She wanted to know why the animals kept saying, "Not I!" when the little red hen asked them to help.

I said, "That's the same as when Daddy asks Bryan, or JT, or you to go help in the garden, and you all say, 'No.'"

"Oh.  They're lazy."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Luci asked me to sing to her tonight, so I did.  I told her I'd sing a song that her daddy sang to her when she was little.
Summer time and the livin' is easy
Catfish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich and your mama's good lookin'
Hush little baby, don't you cry.
Did you make that part up?
Which part?
"Your mama's good lookin'"
Good thing she's cute.
I'm just like Billy Graham
We heard someone on the radio this morning, telling about a Billy Graham crusade that happened back in the early 60's.
Do you remember watching those crusades on television?  They were almost always in a huge stadium, packed with people.  At the end, the song Just as I am would be sung, with about a hundred verses, not wanting to miss anyone who wanted to "come down front."
The speaker on the radio today told about that early 60's crusade:
Billy Graham told the people:  We are not racists.  You will sit next to each other.  You will be quiet, and you'll enjoy it!
Luci said, "Hey!  He sounds just like Mom!"
Heard Today
We were heading into the restaurant for lunch.
Can I bring my LPS?  (that means a Littlest Pet Shop character)
Yes, you can bring one.
Just one?  Who is she going to talk to?
Heard Today
When we go to Idaho, I'm going to take my allowance so I can buy a souvenir.
I am going to buy a potato.
You know, they are known for that there.
Heard this week:
I know what J.T. had to do when he was bad....
He had to write his whole math test in sign language!
(this is where you would say, "Bless her heart.")
Luci-isms
This has been a productive week for my creator of Luci-isms (that's Luci, if you weren't too sure).
First:
Luci was in the bathroom, um, going to the bathroom, when I heard her yell hysterically:
Mama!  Come quick!  Mama!  Come quick!
I thought that perhaps she didn't get there in time and needed some help.
Mama!  Quick!
She had a magazine in her hands, and said,
I think I read something!
She did, too!  She read part of a hair color ad.  She was so proud, and so am I.  It's been a long road, lots of phonics and sight words, and nearly every reading program known to man, and now the lightbulb has come on and the reading has started!
Second:
When Life gives you Lemons,
You make something with the Lemons.
Third:
JT and Luci were playing, when Luci came running and fussing to me.
Mama!  JT is saying bad words.  He is calling me names!  He said, he said, he said I was a (whispering this last word)   democrat!
School Work (?)
Today part of JT's schoolwork was to watch Thornton Wilder's Our Town.  (I am thankful for Netflix!)
He was so enthralled with the show, don't you think?  Here he is watching:
And, yes, that's Luci doing a "photo bomb."
What does Luci do when I'm busy with JT's schoolwork?  (besides tear up the house, I mean)
She does a little artwork:
I hope you can see that.  I told Luci that it looks sort of like Papa.
Papa?  Does he have a moustache?   yes
Does he have a hat?  yes
Does he have a demonicle?  after rolling on the floor, laughing, I said yes.
Heard Today:
JT was watching his driver's ed DVD today.   One of the comments on the program was this:
"One of our goals is to produce drivers who are competent and confident."
Luci, who hears everything, looked at me out of the corners of her eyes and said,
"Yeah.  I don't think so."
I cannot make this stuff up.
Yesterday we went to Jemison, to celebrate John's dad's 85th birthday.  The big to-do was held in Cindy's wedding chapel--the Jemison Wedding Chapel.  It is a lovely place--if you're looking for an historical wedding site, this is perfect.
Luci took the boys in to the chapel and showed them where people get married.
See that place up there?  That's where you say your bowels.
photos from Grandpa's birthday in a later post.
Taylor Swith--that pretty country singer pictured here
Violent--what you might know as purple
Tutorial--okay, so she knows how to pronounce this, and what it means!
Easter Joy
The weather the past few days has been absolutely gorgeous--70s, low humidity.  What I consider perfect weather.  Easter Sunday was just the same--beautiful!
Here are Luci and JT today.  Bryan was at a friend's house.
Luci with our azalea bush.  (Our trees and bushes bloom/sprout a week or two after things in town.  We are just far enough north to make them that much later.)
JT's solo shot.
John checking the blueberry bush (that JT mowed over two weeks ago!  Why, JT, why??  Thank goodness it's growing again. And if you know a foolproof way to keep weeds out of the brick walk, let me know!).
Now, for the special gift that the Easter Bunny left:
Conversation this morning:
Luci, look!  This bracelet has Christian symbols on it.  A cross, an angel, a Bible.
How did the Easter Bunny know I wanted that?
Later:
Daddy!  Look what the Easter Bunny brought me!  A church of Christ bracelet!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And later in the day:

The power winked off for about a minute after lunch today.  JT was in his room, in a crucial part of his video game, and we hear, "Nooooooo!"

I said, "That used to happen nearly every day at our old house (meaning the power flashing off and then back on). "

Luci said,  "Wow.  He sure was a whiny kid!"

She's gonna be a doctor!

JT got a tick yesterday
 Where was it, Luci?
It was on the squishy of the leg!

I have lots of vocapularies to carry my blood all over.

I know how to say "poop" in Science...feces!

A Good Mommy

Not me.   Luci!   She's a good Mommy.

Luci calls me "Grandma" when she's playing with her babies.

She explained why while rolling her eyes (seems she thinks I'm a slow learner):

Because you're their Grandma.  Your Mom is my Grandma.  When I'm married, you'll be my babies' grandma.  That's how the system works!

Baby Oil

Me, wiping stage makeup off of Luci's face with baby oil:

I'm using baby oil.  Do you know what it's made of?

No.

Corn oil is made from corn.

So baby oil is made from babies?

Do you know how they get corn oil?
They squeeze the corn.  So how do they get baby oil?

From baby pee?

Would I rub baby pee on your face?

No, but I would rub it on JT's face!

I don't understand how...

...she can draw this with no previous instruction.

Belle in a bathtub, with a door in the background.  Luci wanted the door locked, so she drew a key.

This is not the impressive part.
 This is the impressive part.

Luci drew a three-dimensional box, put the key in, and left the lid opened.
Luci,  how did you know how to do this?

I don't know, I just did it.

I told a friend about this drawing, and she said, "Perhaps she'll be an architect."

Luci said, "No, but I might be a girl who builds houses!"

Heard Today

Anakin:  not the familiar character from the Star Wars trilogy (the cute kid who eventually grows     up to be Dark Vader, uh, I mean Darth Vader) --an Anakin is a person-sized doll at a clothing store.  You might know it as a Mannequin.

 The Ryan's Belt:  More familiarly known as Orion's Belt.  We had a great field trip to a planetarium (Von Braun Astronomical Society) on Friday.  Luci finally got to spot The Ryan's Belt in the sky tonight.  But she missed Betelgeuse!  (did you know that if you type in "Betelgeuse" into Google's search engine, Beetlejuice the movie pops up?  That disappoints me.)

Behemoth:  Ok, so she pronounces this correctly and knows what it is!

She's at it again!

Last night Luci and I were watching TV.

What she says was "an old man" (he was my age!!) said, "I used to be cute."

He shouldn't say that--it's naughty to brag.

Me:  What if it's true?  I used to be cute!

Luci looked at me from the corners of her eyes, and said,

You sure?

Oh, yeah:

I bet you didn't know...

According to Luci, there are three kinds of tea.

She figured this out as she prepared a tea party for us for lunch today:
There are three kinds of tea.

Hot Tea.

Sweet Tea.

T-T.
