From the Heart

Yesterday was a Day of Awful Proportions.

Not a Happy Homeschool Day, that's for sure.

We had one who was reacting to some scents he had been exposed to, and one who thought noon was just an idea, since he rarely sees it with his eyes open.

So.

After supper I spent a great deal of time convincing (convincing is "Susan-ese" for talking extremely loudly) the boys to clean their rooms.  They did, but they were not happy about it.

After that melee, I took my Kindle Fire and went to my own bedroom and had a nice, quiet time.  Until Rock Band exploded in the living room!  Wowzer!  All three kids, getting along, and playing nicely!  Nice and LOUD.

Since this was a rare occasion, I took a photo.

The music went on for several hours.  Luci found some sunglasses, a wig and a cool hat.

And it's going on again, tonight!  It is NOISY.

And NICE.

Tonight I was figuring out JT's grades (he did well this year!) and putting them into our online reporting program.  Since the dates of JT's birthday and Bryan's birthday are so similar, I had JT come check to make sure I got it correct. 

This discussion brought Luci...who has studied right along with JT and his anatomy classes this year...

Saturday!

Today was fun! We had soccer, and a field trip--



We went to FAME Recording Studios after the soccer game. FAME has recorded some of the best-known musicians in the USA. Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Paul Anka, Shenandoah, Alabama, here's a list. Terry Pace gave us the tour (Skynryd's not on there, but Terry said he'd played there, too). It was wonderful getting to go into this building that has so much mystique around it. Aretha Franklin played this piano! Terry Pace speaking to us.

As the lecture went on, another couple came into the room and stood next to us. It was such a nice surprise! They turned out to be a couple that I met years ago at McDonald's. Bryan and I used to go several days during the work-week, at breakfast time. We ate breakfast there a lot, up to the time when I had to start ordering Bryan's breakfast (he ate off my plate)--we ate there until it got too pricey. :) Anyway, this couple was always so nice to us. Their children and grandchildren lived far away, and so did my parents. So it was a good friendship.

JT was such a good helper today.

Handy Fest

Today Kathy and I took all the kids to Handy Fest's "On the Plaza" event. Handy Fest is a week-long celebration of the birth of W.C. Handy, father of the Blues. Mostly Kathy and I watched Kalyn and Luci having fun. Here's what happened:

Having a good time. Not the best picture, but it shows the joy the girls demonstrated with some of the music.
Bryan and JT so excited to be there. (ha! I called it a field trip and made them come. They used to like it, but they don't remember that far back. Plus, it was a pretty hot and humid day. Today was the first time, in all the years I've come to this event, that there was a breeze!) As you can see, we were right up next to the band. Best seats!
The girls had the most fun playing with the ice chest under the table. They even got noticed by a lady nearby, who came and spoke to us about how cute they were.
Kathy and I got so tickled watching them have fun. Christmas gift idea: ice chest!

A good place for a snack.
